Day 13
Hi All,
Before I get started today I want to
thank all of you who have written us to let us know you were tagging along with
us day to day. It makes it worth the trouble to get the page up knowing that
many people our enjoying it.
We are now winding down to the end of
this adventure and will be flying home on Wednesday. Today we woke up knowing
we had a free day with nothing planned. We got on the internet and found out that
RT 543 to Mt Baker was a pretty ride. Before long we were on our way and the Lord
had blessed us with a beautiful sunshiny day.
We first passed this beautiful old
wooden church.
We then saw these two guys by the
road. Prilly ask me which one is the donkey and which one is the ass.
We see a sign that says to Silver
Lake Recreation Area so down the road we go.
We turn in and go through this thick
wooded road that smelled like a rain forest.
It is hard to capture the lushness of
this place.
The woods finally break way to a
beautiful little lake with little cabins around it.
The geese are very friendly.
We spot this big dragon fly.
The lake is so clear you can see
small fish in it.
Now back out on RT 543 we see this
fast moving creek and it's a milky color.
We then see this sign and realize
that this day is going to be a real adventure going up to over 10,000 feet.
Before long that creek is far below
us.
How cool it was for the lord to give
this a splash of red.
Our first view of Mt Baker.
That snow looks pretty deep.
In order to get up here there are a
bunch of switch backs and what's worse, no guard rails.
This clip was taken when we were
coming down and on the inside. Going up we were too busy holding on, to take
this video. notice the pull offs on the outside lane.
It looks like she is pointing at a
painting.
But it's not.
What Color !
This mountain looks like it's on fire,
but they are just clouds bumping into it.
What a view.
When I zoom in closer in the previous
picture you can see a lake.
There are way more glaciers here, in
these mountains, than in Glacier NP
One cloud in the sky and it had to
run right into Mt Baker. That's one trouble of being so tall.
This will give you an idea of just how
thick that ice is. Those trees are close to 100 feet tall and they are on a
mountain in front of Mt Baker.
We had no idea what the Lord had planned
for us today, but He sure delivered a beauty.
See you tomorrow,
Ralph & Prilly
